The Anglo Saxon Elegies

The Anglo Saxon Elegies
Mark James Leech
Pipers' Ash Ltd. (01249 720563)
Price: 4.95
ISBN 1-904494-26-9

The nine Anglo Saxon Elegies include the oldest poems in English, and all of them deal with the great themes of love, loss, betrayal, longing, death and reconciliation. This new, accessible translation brings out the intensity of the personal stories the poems tell, and makes all nine elegies available to the general reader for the first time while retaining their distinctive style and spirit.

Mark Leech was born in 1977 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. He translated the elegies after being inspired by Seamus Heaney's version of Beowulf, and hopes to rekindle interest in the great poetry of the Anglo Saxons.
