Warwick Writing Programme Fifth Birthday Celebration

While Writers at Warwick is
now recognised as a significant new literature series in the country, the Warwick Writing
Programme itself has been called by The Independent
one of the most imaginative experiments in higher education. Its three-year
honours degree in creative writing is probably one of the ( if not the) most popular arts courses in Europe,
attracting highly talented students from across the globe. And this coming year sees the
launch of a new international MA in Writing, as well as more projects in local schools; in
Coventry town centre as part of the Phoenix Initiative; and workshops across the Midlands.
What
is it about the Warwick Writing Programme that attracts thirty candidates for every one
place on its writing degree? What are the students like, and are they really the great
writers and readers of the future? Join us to celebrate five years of writing and writers
at Warwick. The event will be led by David Morley, the director of the programme, and will
include performances by students and members of the Midlands writing community, the launch
of a new magazine, and a surprise reading by a mystery guest writer. There will also be a
chance for discussion and questions about Midlands writing and publishing. Celebrations
will continue afterwards in the Arts Centre upper bar.
